What are most people doing with respect to using the Work Status feature and the Business Process Flows (BPFs) in SAP BPC 10 NW? I ask because my initial thought was that we could use the work status feature to quickly see where we are on the process of both consolidations and for planning functionality. We could use it to prevent users for modifying data that should not be modified, as well. I know this can be done using data access profiles, but this is more wholesale (lock everything down at once).
In addition, I expected we could use BPFs to not only document the processes and who needs to be involved in what steps, but to also get a view into where we are in the process of either performing consolidations or creating budgets, etc. This would be helpful for users engaged in the process to know what steps they need to perform and when, who are the constraints, etc, but this would also help when new people come on board or in the event someone has to be out for an extended period of time.
What I am hearing from a few folks is that no one really uses either of these features, and the main reason people do not use them is for the fact that there is a great deal of maintenance/overhead required to maintain everything.
What are you guys doing, either at your own places of employment, or for your clients, if you are a consultant? I would hate to think that these features are useless, but I also do not want to create a maintenance nightmare. There needs to be value in the process.
Your feedback is greatly appreciated.
